Description

Silver, parcel-gilt and niello, rectangular with cut corners, decorated with vignettes of a man in a landscape, and a ship approaching the shore

Silver, parcel-gilt and niello, rectangular with cut corners and integral hinge. The flat cover is nielloed with a vignette of a man leaning on an anchor looking out to sea. In the centre of the anchor is an oval cartouche containing the initals "AI". The vignette is surrounded by a nielloed pattern of stars on stripes within a gilt bright-cut border. The base and sides are similarly decorated, but the vignette on the base depicts a ship approaching the shore with a town in the background; the two long sides have vignettes of flowers.
