Description

Papier-mâché, lacquered and painted; the painting on the lid depicting a reclining woman in a peach coloured dress, the removable inner base depicting an erotic scene

Papier-mâché, lacquered and painted; circular with slightly concave sides and a flat pull-off lid; the inner section removable. The base, sides and interior are lacquered black The lid is painted in polychrome with a young woman, wearing a peach coloured dress, and reclining on a tasselled cusion beneath a green drape. She dreams of her lover, who is possibly represented in the statue which is seen through the window embrasure on her left. The base of the false lining depicts an erotic scene and is inscribed 'Thomasnacht'.
