Description

Papier-mâché, lacquered; on the lid an applied print of a memorial and trophies of war, on the interior an applied print of an erotic scene

Papier-mâché and lacquer; circular with slightly concave sides and an almost flat pull-off lid. The base, sides and interior are lacquered black. The top and interior of the lid have applied prints varnished brown. The print on the top depicts a military memorial and trophies of war. The memorial is inscribed 'La Garde Imperiale meurt et ne serend pas'; alongside it are two other memorials inscribed with a list of the countries where the Imperial Guard had fought. At the base is the inscription 'Hommage au Courage / malheureux'. The print in the interior depicts an erotic scene and inscription ' Dans les cieux, sous l'eau, sur la terre / tout annonce que ton fout'.
