Description

Silver-gilt; harp-shaped vinaigrette

Silver-gilt; the Irish harp-shaped vinaigrette is formed from a cast caryatid and scroll attached to coffin-shaped base cum box, with narrow wires forming the strings. The box is hinged, and closes with a screw peg. The top is pierced to release the perfume from the herbs or flowers contained in the box. Two rings (for suspending the vinaigrette from a chain) are attached to the top of the harp.
