Elongated oval, ivory box, the lid set with carved ivory miniature of sailing ships silhouetted against a black painted sky
Carved ivory, mirror glass and gold. Elongated oval with straight sides and a gold hinge and button clasp. The top of the lid is decorated with carved ivory micro miniature of sailing ships silhouetted against a black painted sky, set under glass with a gold mount. The underside of the lid is set with a mirror, and the base is lined with red velvet.

G. Stephany and J. Dresch, immigrants from Augsburg, worked in London and Bath producing carved ivory micro miniatures, often depicting frigates, for English society. They carved busts of George III, Queen Charlotte and Princess Charlotte and were granted the title 'Sculptors in Miniature on Ivory to their Majesties' by George III.
