Description

Pale reddish-brown earthenware, moulded in relief and decorated with opaque blue, yellow and white glazes and translucent dark green glaze. Square with an upstanding rim on the back. Within a circular frame decorated with stylised leaves, is a bust portrait in profile to left of Mary of Hungary, wife of Louis II; in the spandrels, stylised foliage. In ebonised wood frame.

Note

Mary of Burgundy (1505-58), married Louis II of Hungary in 1522 and was Queen until 1526 when he was killed at the battle of Mohács. Later 1531-52 she was Regent of the Netherlands.
