Virgin and Child

Frame of a raised foliated scroll in enamel surrounds the slightly sunk centre-piece. On a plain gilt ground is applied an enamelled figure group. The Virgin has a red mantle with a white border which is worn over the head in the Byzantine manner. The Child, holding a papyrus roll in his left hand and blessing with his right, wears a yellow mantle over a black robe.
