Description

Lieutenant Allen Oliver was a Canadian soldier who joined the army during the Great War having graduated from McGill University in Montreal, with a degree in Economics and Political Science. After his unfortunate death on the Somme on 28 November 1916 his mother, Mrs Frank Oliver, established the Allen Oliver Fellowships and Medal in his memory. The Fellowships and Medal are awarded to the students who achieve the highest final marks in the B.A. examinations in Economics and in Political Science. The medal itself was designed by Allan Gairdner Wyon, and this piece is a bronze specimen of the design from his collection.
