During the Great War a number of private individuals offered houses that they owned for use for the war effort, often as auxiliary hospitals. One such was Monkstown House in Dublin, offered by Mr Harold Pim. The site is still in use as a hospital today. This piece is a design by Allan Gairdner Wyon for the hospital, but it is not clear that the medal was ever issued by them.
