Wyon, Allan Gairdner
Issuer:
Worshipful Company of Stationers
The City and Guilds Institute craft examinations used to be held at Stationers' Hall and in 1912 a prize and medal were awarded for the
apprentice with the highest marks in the examination on typography, lithography and booking. This was instigated by Sir Philip Magnus, MP for Westminster, and the prize was to be awarded to a recipient chosen out of those achieving 70% or higher in their marks and who, for preference, resided within 20 miles of Stationers' Hall. It took the form of a medal, which was accordingly designed in 1911 by Allan Gairdner Wyon, to be presented at the City and Guilds London Institute. This is a specimen of that medal in white metal. The Museum also has one in bronze. The Museum must thank James Armstrong and Robin Myers of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers for assistance with the details of this entry.
