Joan Beauchamp Procter was a zoologist of the early twentieth century who despite continual ill-health that eventually claimed her life at the age of 34 had by then risen to be Curator of Reptiles at London Zoo and a much-loved and respected personality of the field. This commemorative plaquette was designed in her memory by Allan Gairdner Wyon; this specimen is a specimen from his workshop.
