Description

James Forrest was Secretary of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 1860 to 1896, and at his retirement subscriptions established a considerable fund. Some of this he requested be used to endow a fund for a medal to be awarded annually for a paper by an Associate Member or Student of the Institution. The medal is still awarded today, and in 1983 the Institution opened the award to Graduate Members as well. This piece is a bronze specimen of the original design by Allan Wyon, from his workshop and passed on thence to his descendant Allan Gairdner Wyon and from his collection to the Museum.
