Description

Half-length portrait for Smith's own mezzotint of the same man (CS 159), which was engraved to be printed in the same direction as the drawing (and Kneller's painting). Erskine's head, wig and neckcloth are executed in chalk and wash, while his armour is delineated in ink. The drawing is encricled by a single ink line with a handwritten title underneath.
