Description

Silver; box for pills and surgical needles

Silver; oval, the upper hinged lid has a thumbpiece at the centre front, the interior is divided into four compartments, two deeper than the others; the base has a half lid which is hinged in the centre with its thumbpiece at centre back of the box, the interior with one compartment below the two shallow compartments above. The centre of the upper lid is inscribed "W PRINCE 1784" round this is inscribed "JOHN PRINCE M.R.C.S. / 1758-1845", "THOMAS PRINCE M.R.C.S. / 1809-1890" and "1836-1884 / CHARLES E. PRINCE M.R.C.S. "The front side of the box is inscribed "C.L. PRINCE . SURGEON / 1845". The box contains a calling card inscribed "Miss Prince / 4 Durham Villas / Kensington W.8.
