Earthenware, tin-glazed white on the upper surface and decorated in blue and powdered manganese. In the middle, a portrait of James, Duke of York, flanked by the initials 'I' and 'P' within a circular medallion with a scalloped border; powdered manganese ground with reserved quarter-stars in the corners.
History note: Purchased in Cambridge from Mr Louis Gautier, 2October, 1928 with C.2832A-1928 for £26 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, Trinity College, Cambridge

Glaisher believed this tile was English; Rackham attributed it to the Netherlands; later it was reattributed to England, but the presence of tiles of similar design in the Netherlands, has resulted in a further change back to the Netherlands.
