Description

Earthenware, tin-glazed white on the upper surface and decorated in blue and powdered manganese. In the middle, a portrait of Charles II, flanked by the initials 'C' and 'R' with '2' below the 'C', within a circular medallion with a scalloped border; powdered manganese ground with reserved quarter-stars in the corners.

Note

Glaisher believed that this tile was English; Rackham reattributed it ot the Netherlands in 1935; it was later thought to be English, but on the basis of tiles of similar type in the Netherlands, it has been reattributed to the Netherlands.
