Description

Cup with chrysanthemum design. Stoneware, thrown, shaped, incised and celadon-glazed. The rounded cup has a slightly incurved mouth with six indentations and rests on a flared foot with matching notches. The outside is finely incised with chrysanthemum sprays in six petal panels which correspond to the shape of the rim. Another chrysanthemum spray is incised in the recessed centre. The pale bluish-green glaze is glossy and crackled. The footring has been wiped free of glaze and shows traces of four fire-clay spurs. The cup has lost its original stand.
