Silver-gilt; oval bowl on hollow handle with flat shield-shaped terminal; engraved with a pattern of lines and a coat-of-arms
Silver-gilt; the oval bowl is attached to the handle by a flat lozenge shape, which enables the spoon to stand. The almost pentagonal hollow handle terminates with an applied shield. The back of the bowl is engraved with a coat-of-arms and crest within mantling and the initials 'VH' and 'VE'. The sides and the flat base of the handle are engraved with a pattern of lines.

The spoon does not bear a town or maker's mark. It was accessioned as German but is probably from Switzerland. The oval bowl is probably a replacement for a fig-shaped bowl, and the gilding is either later or a replacement.
