Pottery: Unknown (Probably)
Cosmetic box and cover with peony design. Stoneware, moulded, inlaid in black and white slip, and celadon glazed. This is a typical Koryo box with flat cover and bevelled edges; the base is recessed. A large peony with fully-opened white bloom and black foliage is inlaid on the cover surrounded by four black scroll motifs. The dark green celadon glaze is thickly applied and has a subtle gloss. The rims of both parts have been wiped free of glaze, and traces of fine fire-clay supports are visible; on the base are three quartzite spur-marks.
