Pottery: Unknown (Probably)
Cosmetic box and cover with peony and chrysanthemum design. Stoneware, moulded, inlaid in black and white slip, and celadon glazed. This flat circular box has bevelled edges. The cover is inlaid in black and white slip with a peony spray in the centre, surrounded by a band of alternating peonies and chrysanthemums and another of lotus petals, all separated by narrow bands of dots. The sides of both box and cover are inlaid with bands of key-fret in white slip. Except for the rims of both box and cover the whole piece is covered with a deep green celadon glaze with a wide-meshed crackle. There are three quartzite spur-marks on the base.
