Description

Silver-gilt and niello; oval gilt bowl with ribbed rat-tail; gilt handle engraved and nielloed with scrolls and two religious vignettes

Silver-gilt and niello; the long oval gilt bowl has on the back a short rat-tail. The gilt handle is almost square in section and terminates with a cruciform finial. The front and back of the handle are engraved and nielloed with a pattern of scrolls and a religious vignette. The vignette on the front probably depicts an angel visiting Joseph, and that on the back depicts the Annunciation
