Description

Bottle with lotus design. Stoneware, thrown, covered with white slip, carved and punch'ong-glazed. The pear-shaped bottle has a flaring (restored) neck and a slightly splayed foot. The heavy body was pared except for a small area above the foot, which is set off by a distinct ridge. The bottle is covered with a thick layer of white slip through which the outlines of a petal border and a broad band of lotus flowers have been carved, which now appear in slight relief in white against the grey of the exposed body, and all is covered with a pale green glaze. The foot and base are largely glazed, the base has incised markings.
