The fragment is made of relatively coarse clay. Such pieces were made during the sixteenth century in kilns surrounding those that made wares for the royal household, and were intended for use in the government offices. Such kilns have been found in the area of Toma-ri, Kwanum-ri, Usan-ri, Mugap-ri and Taech'ongnyong-ri.
