Description

Inscribed offering dish. Porcelain, thrown, luted, inscribed in cobalt-blue and glazed. This dish has a high, almost cylindrical foot, characteristic of ceremonial vessels. In the centre the single character che ('offering') is inscribed in underglaze-blue in regular script, enclosed in a ring. The snow-white glaze is clear and glossy. The inside of the foot is incised with the character t'ae ('great'), perhaps indicating the superior quality of the piece. There are traces of a fine sandy fire-clay support on the footring.
