Gold with engraved decoration. Formed by two overlapping tubes, each with a concealed hinge, fastening at centre back. Inscribed on the underside at the front 'M. Halkett d 24 Debr 1868'. In original light red leather case (A), lined with purple velvet and silk, bearing a black label, printed in gold 'E.F. DAHL,/ Hof-Juveleer,/ Østergade 53./ KJØBENHAVN.’

The design of this necklet was based on a necklet, probably of the early 5th century AD found in 1857 in Øland (Hjørring county), a small island west of Aalborg in Limfjorden, now in the National Museum, Copenhagen, inv. no. 16398.
