Maker: Lagarde
Bracket clock with 8 day movement. Louis XIV style, with winged figure of Victory.
Dial: Gilt brass dial with twelve apertures behind which are fitted white enamel plaques with blue roman numerals. A ring of quarter hour divisions cast into the dial plate inside the hour apertures and individual minute numbers cast into the outer edge. Shaped blued steel hands. The dial not signed, but rear of dial plate stamped `Lagarde 3026'.
Movement: 8 day movement striking hours and half hours on a bell. Square plates, the back plate stamped ‘LAGARDE à Paris 3026', also in a medallion ‘Japy Fils / 1885 / Medailles / 1844 1849'. Pendulum also stamped `3026'.
Case: In late Louis XIV style with mahogany carcase veneered with Buhl work in brass and turtle shell which is brown with mottling. Good quality ormolu mounts including scrolled feet terminating in putti, caryatids and finials, and surmounted by a winged figure of Victory. The lower part of the dial open¬ing occupied by a mount depicting goddesses and Cupid with a globe.
