Note

Text from object entry in A. Game (2016) ‘Contemporary British Crafts: The Goodison Gift to the Fitzwilliam Museum’. London: Philip Wilson Publishers: Nora Fok began work in a factory in her native Hong Kong assembling toys and computer components. This was followed by studies in Graphic Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic and a number of years working professionally in this area before coming to the UK in 1978 to study on the Wood, Metals and Plastics course at Brighton Polytechnic. Since establishing her independent studio in Brighton in 1984, Fok has developed a unique body of wearable objects formed from applying a range of textile processes to nylon thread. Works have been exhibited and are collected internationally. Nora Fok: ‘We love cherries when in season. While we were marvelling at the rich sweet flavour, the idea of preserving it in my own way came to me. It also brought back fond memories when I was given a tub of cherries for lunch when I was visiting the glass flowers exhibition at Harvard.’
