The interior has an engraved border of arches containing stylised ivy leaves and berries and a punched border of pellets. The legends on the medallion are: on the obverse ‘LUDOVICUS MAGNUS REX CHRISTIANISSIUMUS’, and the signature ‘I MAVGER F.’; and on the reverse, which depicts Louis IV sitting on his throne with the ambassador of Charles II of Spain kneeling before him, ‘PAX PRONUBA’; beneath is ‘MAR. LUD. AUREI. CAR. II. HISP. / REGI COLLOCATA. / M.DC.LXXIX’. The rim, to the right of the handle, is inscribed ‘F.J. de CHASTELLUX 1783’.
