This group, which first appeared in 1847, is after a marble of 1817 by Bertel Thorwaldsen (1790-1844), now in the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Another marble is in the Thorvaldsen Museum, Copenhagen, and several reduced versions were produced in the sculptor'sstudio; an example at Waddesdon Manor is probably one of these.
