Fritware coated in a white glaze painted in blue and lustre
Fritware, mould made, coated in white glaze painted under the glaze in blue and over the glaze in lustre
Shape:eight pointed star-shaped tile with bevelled edges
Upper surface: following the contours of the edge of the tile, a frieze of dotted medallions and scrolls are outlined in lustre and coloured with blue, all enclosed within lustre or blue lines. In the centre, a horse with dappled coat is reserved on a dotted lustred ground containing dotted palmettes and leaves and a stylised wall. Glaze runs unevenly over the edges of the tile.
Lower surface:undecorated.
History note: From the collection of the late Henry Wallis. On the back there is a rectangular label printed in black 'LENT BY/' stamped in purple ' WALLIS ESQ'/ printed in black ' o.' written in black ink '115'.
