Miniaturist: Augustin, Jean Baptiste Jacques
History note: J. Pierpont Morgan; his sale Christie's, 27 June 1935 (771), where bought by Louis C.G. Clarke
Bequeathed 1960.
Height: 79 mm
Width: 58 mm
Method of acquisition: Bequeathed (1961) by Clarke, Louis Colville Gray
Production date: ? AD 1792 : This miniature was in the possession of Augustin at his death. In his notebook which covers the year 1792, Augustin records paintin a miniature of M. Robergeot-Lartigue [sic]. The next entry records three miniatures commissioned by Mme Robertjot-Lartigue. A side-note reads: 'Mme Lartigue me doit ces trois derniers, le cadre en or, la glace le tout - 100 Louis.' It is just possible that Augustin gave the sitter only a first sitting because she did not pay the 100 louis. If so this miniature is datable as above.
