Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, traces of earlier paper mounts on verso, central miniature 203 x 143 mm, single piece forming left, upper and lower borders 314 x 200 mm, right border 325 x 60 mm

DECORATION: Miniature of the Vision of Pope Leo the Great set within gold proscenium arch (later addition) and surrounded by an inhabited border with gold ornament on blue, red and green ground and oval medallions with portraits of a sibyl at each corner, the arms of Clement VII in the lower border, and his devices: the crystal sphere and burning tree in the left border, the motto SEMPER with diamond ring and feathers in the upper border, and the motto SUAVE with the yoke in the right-hand border.
