PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 211 x 142 mm, no text on verso.

DECORATION: Full-page miniature in two compartments: above, the holder of the commission, kneeling, is presented to the Virgin and Child by his patron saint; below, Justice stands with sword and scales on a golden plinth supported by dolphins, flanked by Prudence and Temperance against a seascape, with two putti grasping ribbons which secure a shield of arms; the miniature is surrounded by a full floral border of gold sprays and grisaille flower heads on a brown ground.

History note: Commission produced for a member of the Barbaro family, Venice; Monogram ‘H de S’ in brown ink on verso
