Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 220 x 155 mm

CONTENTS: Commission from Doge Alvise Mocenigo (1570-1577) appointing Pellegrino Bragadin as proveditore of Cataro (Kotor, Montenegro) for two years.

DECORATION: Full-page miniature of St Mark enthroned, lion at his feet, and handing a sceptre to the personification of Venice, witnessed by putti, the Holy Spirit as a dove (very faded) in the cloud above, and the half-length figure of Pellegrino Bragadin in ermine-trimmed robes, the whole set within a full border of architectural ornament in gold, with the Bragadin arms in the lower section.

ORNAMENTATION: Foliate line-filler in gold and first four lines of text written in gold epigraphic capitals on verso.
