Description

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, glazed and painted in gold. Silver-shape teapot with ribbed sides, accompanied by a wavy-edged lozenge-shaped stand. Pattern no. 198

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, moulded, glazed, and painted in gold. The base of the stand is unglazed. The silver-shape teapot has ribbed sides, a curved spout and strap handle. Behind the spout there are seven holes. The circular cover (A) is slightly domed, and has a cone-shaped finial. It has a circular hole below the knob and a larger ventilation hole pierced through the top . The stand (B) has a shaped outline to match the pot, sloping sides and a flat centre. The pot is decorated below the shoulder with a a border comprising a continuous stem of stylized foliage, a horizontal band, and alternating pairs and single motifs formed by three dots with a narrow trefoil or fleur-de-lys above. On the shoulder there are crossed ears of wheat at either end, and one ear on each side. There are gold bands above the base, on the shoulder, round the mouth, and down the sides of the handle which also has a vertical line down its back. The spout has a row of graduated dots on its underside, a row of graduated leaves (or flowers?) between lines on the sides, five strokes on its top and a band round its tip. The cover has a border like that below the shoulder and the knob is decorated with teardrops falling from the point. The stand has a bunch of gold foliage in the centre surrounded by an oval band, and a matching border, with a broad band on the edge.
