Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 200 x 139 mm

CONTENTS: Commission from Doge Pascale Cicogna (1585-1595) to a member of the Capello family.

DECORATION: Full-page oval miniature with Doge enthroned and presenting a richly bound book to the kneeling holder of the commission, with vision of Christ in sky above, framed by a full border of gold formal ornament with the arms of the Capello family in the lower bar.

ORNAMENTATION: The opening lines of the text are written in gold epigraphic capitals.

History note: Samuel Rogers (1763-1855); acquired from him by Thomas Miller Whitehead in 1855 (note on verso of mount)
