Description

Tortoise-shell with oval miniature of a vase of flowers and basket of fruit

Tortoise-shell set with a miniature in bodycolour and watercolour on card, mounted under glass in gold. The circular box has slightly concave sides and an almost flat pull-off lid. Round the miniature the mount is chased with a decorative border. Round the edge of the base and rims are mounts of undecorated gold. The oval miniature depicts a carved stone (or gilt metal) vase of flowers, including roses, tulips, auriculas, and delphiniums, in front is a basket of three peaches, black grapes and redcurrants, on a marble slab.
