Description

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, of standard 'silver shape' with circular cover, transfer-printed underglaze in blue, and painted in blue, green, pink dark pink, and red enamels with a 'Tobacco Leaf' . Pattern 272.

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, slip-cast, transfer-printed underglaze in blue, and painted overglaze in blue, green, pink, dark pink, and red enamels. Of standard 'silver shape' with slightly curved spout with seven holes behind it, strap handle, and circular cover, with a flask-shaped knob with a central vent hole. Both sides are decorated with a tobacco leaf pattern comprising a red petalled flower with a blue edge and two circular solid blue flower heads flanked by large serrated blue and red leaves, with above, to the left, two linked blue rings attached to more blue and red leaves. These are interspersed with a few smaller green leaf sprays and two dark and pale pink flowers with pointed petals. On the shoulder there is a narrow border of red edged flower heads and sprays of small blue leaves, and beside the spout and the handle a sprays of an oval pink-edged flower head flanked by green leave and pink buds. Down the back of the handle there is a spray of scrolling blue foliage with a red edged oval flower in the middle, and, under, and on top of the spout, blue and red serrated leaves, the former with two linked blue rings. There is a dark pink band below the rim. The cover is decorated with three groups of red flowers and green leaves, surrounded by a border matching that on the shoulder of the pot, and there is a dark pink band round the top of the knob. Pattern 272.
