Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, transfer-printed in black and painted in polychrome enamels with a Chinese figure scenes and floral borders
Hybrid hard-paste porcelain, transfer-printed in black and painted in blue, turquoise, green, apricot-pink, puce, purple, red, and black enamels. The cup is of London shape. The circular saucer has deep curved sides which on the outside, have an ridge and depression around the footring. The exterior of the cup is decorated with a Chinese scene. A lady holding a flower in her left hand is seated on a rectangular garden seat. To the left of her there is half of a female attendant and a pot plant. To the right there is a small boy, and a lady bringing a small tree in a pot. Two small dogs scamper in the foreground.Beside the handle there is a group of flowers in a large vase. A broad multicoloured border of stylized flowers and leaves encircles the inside of the rim. The back of the handle has a puce spot and a vertical stroke. The saucer is decorated with a variant of the scene with a small building on an island floating above the figures, and the border round the outer edge.
