Description

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain painted underglaze in blue and gold with undulating ribbon, paterae, and undulating leaf spray. Identified as pattern no. u584 or no. 170

Hybrid hard-paste porcelain painted underglaze in blue, and gilded. The tea bowl is circular with deep curved sides, standing on a footring. The saucer (A) has curved sides and stands on a footring, and the coffee cup (B) has deep almost straight sides, curving inwards to the footring, and a loop handle. The tea bowl is decorated inside with a gold floral srpay at the bottom, and a border comprising blue paterae linked by undulating blue ribbons edged with gold, an undulating continuous spray of gold leaves, and gold spots in the spaces, with a gold horizontal band below, and a gold band on the rim. On the outside there is a horizontal gold band intertwined by a leafy stem a short distance below the rim, and a gold band round the footring. The saucer is decorated to match, but has a gold circle round the central spray. The coffee cup is decorated to match the tea bowl but does not have a central spray inside. It also has a vertical gold line down the back of the handle. Identified as pattern no. u584 or no. 170.
