Description

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, 64 fols. + i parchment flyleaf, 280 x 200 mm (182 x 145 mm), two columns, 39 lines, ruled in plummet and crayon, catchwords, quire and leaf signatures.

BINDING: Seventeenth century, wooden boards with blind-tooled brown leather spine, sewn on three supports, remains of two leather straps on upper cover, two catchplates on lower cover, traces of chain attachment on upper cover, remains of label on lower cover, paper label on upper cover inscribed Arengarum Liber [magistri] Arnoldi.

CONTENTS: fols. 1r-64v Arnoldus de Augusta, Liber arengarum with Prologue (fols. 1r-2r).

ORNAMENTATION: Green initial [R,4 ll.] with acanthus infill on blue and pink ground, and partial bar and acanthus border, for Prologue (fol. 1r); alternate red and blue penwork initials [5-6 ll.] with reserved ornament and purple or red pen-flourished infill and extensions for some chapters (fol. 21r, 28v, 51r, 60r; alternate red and blue penwork initials [3-4 ll.] with purple or red pen-flourished infill and extensions for remaining parts; capitals highlighted in red; red paraph marks; catchwords in brown ink frames with details highlighted in red.
