PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Parchment, iii modern paper flyleaves + 287 fols. (refoliated since James’s 1912 description, new foliation used here) + iii modern paper flyleaves, 445 x 320 mm (325 x 220 mm), 10 four-line musical staves ruled in red and black ink, 10 text lines ruled in black ink and plummet, resulting together in 60 lines per page, catchwords
BINDING: Nineteenth century, dark green patterned fabric over pasteboards, brown leather spine and corners.

ORNAMENTATION: Three out of original four pink or blue initials [24 ll.] formed of and filled with acanthus foliage in blue, orange, green pink and grey on pink and blue grounds, extending to form partial borders, for the major feasts of Corpus Christi (fol. 55r), the Nativity of St John the Baptist (fol. 62r), the Assumption (fol. 115v, excised), and St Donatus (fol. 100r, mostly excised, but the partial foliage border largely intact); identical initials [7-17 ll.] with occasional geometric infill (e.g. fols. 33r, 256r) for remaining feasts, the more important ones of 17 ll. (e.g. fols. 47v, 140v), some excised; alternate red and blue pen-flourished initials [3 ll.].
