DECORATION: Two miniatures [7 ll., half-column width], framed in pink, with borders of scrolling acanthus in dark red, blue and green with white highlighting and gold discs: fol. 1r Annunciation; fol. 86v Susannah and the Elders.

Two historiated initials in pink on gold grounds, with similar borders: fol. 48r (zoomorphic initial) [N, 8 ll.], Betrayal of Christ; fol. 72r [P, 12 ll.], Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Paradise.

ORNAMENTATION: Forty-three ornamental initials [2-3 ll.], pink on gold ground, occasionally blue on gold or gold on blue ground, all with partial borders of acanthus in red, blue, pink and green with gold discs, for all minor text divisions.

History note: In Italy in the early nineteenth century (note of contents in Italian, fol. ii verso); library of the Duke of Sussex (Pettigrew 1827-1839, I.i, ccxxxviii, nos. 7 and 8; armorial bookplate inside upper cover); Edward Hailstone (1818–1890), armorial bookplate inside upper cover); purchased for the Museum at his sale, Sotheby’s, London, 23 April-1 May 1891, lot 645.
