Production: Unknown
'Spanish' morion, for infantry use, with embossed decoration in the 'black and white' fashion. Formed in two halves joined medially by an overlapped and riveted join. It has an almond-shaped crown that rises to a short backward-directed stalk at its apex; and a narrow, slightly downturned brim that projects to an obtuse point at the front and the rear. The edge of the brim has an inward turn decorated with perpendicular notches. The base of the crown is encircled by ten round-headed lining-rivets fitted with pewter rosette washers externally, and with octagonal internal washers internally. The internal washers retain a modern leather lining-band.
The helmet is decorated in relief with a medial band and a fleur-de-lis at each side: each polished bright against a 'black from the hammer' ground in the 'black and white' fashion.
History note: Mr James Stewart Henderson of 'Abbotsford', Downs Road, St Helen's Park, Hastings, Sussex.
