Anglo-Saxon (Ascribed culture)
An unusual copper-alloy strap end. It is convex-sided and has a zoomorphic terminal with lunette eyes. The upper surface is, however, apparently undecorated. It is broken toward what woiuld normally be the attachment end and also bent. It is highly unusual in that it has been repeatedly riveted. There is a rivet through the nose of the zoomorphic terminal and in the centre of where the decoration would be expected. This is in addition to two rivets at the broken end of strap. It may well have been attached to CM.614-2010 as there is a distinctively shaped patination on it which matches the shape of this strap end. On form and terminal shape it would appear to be C9th/10th and probably Class A, type 1 although it lacks the distinctive Trewhiddle decoration.
