Man Seated on a Tiger Skin
Sunqua (Attributed)
A watercolour drawing from the album 4166. This image depicts a high-ranking Qing official seated in an ornate chair beside a red lacquered round table. The figure wears an elaborate multicolored robe decorated with dragon motifs in green, blue, orange, and red, indicating his high status. The lower portion of his garment features wave motifs in various colours, bordered by black trim with white floral patterns. He wears a distinctive red cap with a peacock feather and has a well-groomed mustache. The official sits in a dark wooden chair covered with a tiger skin and decorative carved elements. Beside him is a red round table holding a dark blue vase osmanthus branches and a small green teacup. The painting is executed in the style typical of Chinese export art from around the late 18th or early 19th century, with exceptional attention to details in the elaborate court costume, furniture design, and luxury accessories. The style combines traditional Chinese figure painting with elements designed to appeal to Western tastes, particularly in the detailed rendering of the subject's sumptuous clothing and the rich interior furnishings.
