Vamplate, for use in the tilt (Welschgestech). Of conical form, with concave sides, an inward-flanged outer edge and a large, circular central hole to fit over a lance. The outer edge is pierced with nineteen holes for missing lining-rivets. The edge of the central hole is pierced with three holes for the nails that attached the vamplates to a lance. One of the holes is partly concealed by a riveted patch that replaces a missing section of the edge.
The vamplate is decorated with six radiating bands of etched ornament that widen towards its outer edge. The ornament consists of two columns of running foliage on a stippled and blackened ground, separated by a narrow, central band. The main bands are each enclosed by a pair of narrow plain bands from which stippled and blackened, alternating trefoils and darts project. The outer edge of the vamplate is bordered by a narrow, plain band.

A group of similar plates are reported in the Musée de l'Armée, Paris: all of dubious authenticity.
The decoration is poorly executed and probably from a modern hand.
The vamplate is bright with medium to heavy pitting overall. It is perforated with three rust-holes. The decoration is heavily worn.
