Coarse linen, embroidered silk in black and red. Cross stitches, an openwork seam stitch formed by buttonhole stitches. Two widths of material seamed down the middle of the veil, decorated at either side of seam by a band of "carnations". At each end is a band of four patterns and at each side a border of seven bands.
