Description

Bone china, decorated in Kashmir style with polychrome enamels and gilding

Bone china, pressed, glazed, painted in dark blue, royal blue, pale blue, green, puce-pink and red enamels, and gilt. Circular with a wide almost flat rim, very shallow curved sides and flat central area, standing on a footring. The decoration is in the 'Kashmir' style. A central multicoloured six-lobed medallion is surrounded by a white zone scattered with tiny gold floral sprays edged by a gold band and a pink band overlaid by a gold garland. On the sides there are pink and blue flowers on a gold ground with a pink band overlaid by a gold garland above them. The rim is decorated with interlacing red and black bands decorated with gold flowers which form compartments, alternately filled by a pair of paisley motifs on a white ground and a floral motif on a lappet on a green ground. The spaces round the edge have a blue ground decorated with small star-like flower heads and foliage. A thick gold band encircles the edge.
