sampler
Woollen canvas, embroidered with polychrome silks in cross, tent, and eyelet stitch. Arcaded floral border with a parrott in upper corners, a lion rampant in lower corners. Central field divided into 5 principal horizontal bands, two pictorial, one of which is of the Temptation of Adam and Eve and three of inscription. The upper and central inscriptions identical to those on Ann Smith's sampler of 1767, T. 37- 1938. Lower inscription in two cartouches, "Mary Davis Finished This" and "Work Novbr 16 1762"
